While MIKA may never again rival his biggest hits ‘Grace Kelly’ and ‘Popular Song’, his latest album, ‘My Name Is Michael Holbrook’, may be his most rounded yet. The bright Pop songs on ‘My Name Is Michael Holbrook’ feature verses as catchy as many other artists’ choruses. It’s clear MIKA’s talent for writing an arresting hook is still strong. The best moments here are largely piano-driven which allows MIKA’s celebratory songs to feel assured yet reflective. It’s a deft balancing act performed with precision.
