Love, Damini Burna Boy
The latest from Burna Boy finds him in a more self-reflective mode than previous releases, though none of the excitement or Pop sensibilities are lost to this change in lyrical focus. Where earlier releases found Burna Boy ably hyping his own credentials, ‘Love, Damini’ finds him more assured as he tackles love, life and vulnerability. Mixing contemporary Afrobeat with Dancehall and Pop, a style Burna Boy has referenced as Afro-fusion, he leaves space for several guests including Ed Sheeran, Khalid, Popcaan, and J Balvin. Both the opener and closer, featuring Ladysmith Black Mambazo, are the most open and raw from Burna Boy yet, while album highlight ‘Cloak & Dagger’ features a rare guest spot from J Hus on a stripped back Hip Hop track not to be missed.
