Red Moon in Venus Kali Uchis
Taking things down a step on her third album, Kali Uchis leans into R&B on a collection of sensual and considered cuts that sweep by like starlit vignettes. Taking in 15 tracks in just 43 minutes, the pace is brisk though never feels rushed. On more clear cut Pop tracks like ‘Fantasy’, featuring Don Toliver on a heavily auto- tuned R&B vocal guest spot, there’s varied pacing but it’s on more relaxed tracks like ‘Como Te Quiero Yo’ that Uchis sounds most at ease. Switching between English and Spanish, ‘Hasta Cuando’ strikes the perfect balance between Uchis’ Pop sensibilities and the late night, deep thought vibes elsewhere. It’s a delicate balance that Uchis achieves by keeping things light and mastering pacing.
